and  pantograph  can  be  improved  through  using  shock  absorbing  materials  in  the
                  supporting structures, in such a way as to minimize the stress and wear.

                  With  regards  to  the  effects  of  wind  action,  there  are  areas  of  R&D  related  to  the
                  development of materials and coatings capable of withstanding the abrasion caused by
                  suspended particles, as well as registration arms and cantilever tubes of greater rigidity
                  and resistance.

                  Finally, the use of fibre-optic should be highlighted as a tool to monitor the facilities, not
                  only in the infrastructure but also the catenary and cable conduit. Spain, Germany and
                  Japan are actively working in this field.
