ENTITY PROFILE
On October 17th 1919, Alfonso XIII opened the fi rst stretch of what today is the Metro de
Madrid Network. Nowadays, after more than 92 years of operation, its network is 292,4
kilometers long with 300 stations. Its trains can carry more than 800 passengers and
reach 110km/h. They are equipped with a high level of automation and they incorporate
the latest technologies in signaling and security. In order to achieve this enormous
expansion, Metro de Madrid has been investing over the last years in technology and
R&D. This proactive approach to innovation has made Metro de Madrid one of the main
references in the world among the railway operators.
